The Fuller Times The pre-race release of seven-time NHRA Top Fuel winner Rod Fuller and the Caterpillar Top Fuel team Contact: Ted Yerzyk, (317) 852-6363 o, or (760) 207-9767 c ted@davidpowersmotorsports.com 21st annual O’Reilly Mid-South Nationals Sept. 26-28, 2008 Memphis Motorsports Park Memphis, Tenn. Hot Rod Fuller on Memphis “We’ve done well at Memphis and we need to do well again. We’re focused on winning races not the championship. We need to qualify well and go some rounds. We won at Memphis three years ago and qualified No. 1 there two years ago, so we hope to repeat that.” Rob Flynn (crew chief) on Memphis “We have four races left this season and we need to start going some rounds. We struggled with our consistency last week, so need to get back to going down the race track. And, we want to do well for our three new CAT dealers, Riggs, Thompson and Louisiana Machinery.” Hot Rod Fuller Memphis NHRA Notebook Last weekend at Texas Motorplex, Fuller qualified his HOLT CAT dragster ninth at 3.896-seconds. He fell in the opening round to rival Tony Schumacher. Fuller has not advanced past the second round of eliminations since the Seattle race in July. Fuller, a seven-time Top Fuel winner, earned his seventh career professional win by defeating Schumacher in the final round of the St. Louis race in May, 4.525 to 4.583. Fuller also earned his seventh career pole this season by qualifying first at the Norwalk, Ohio, race at 4.629-seconds. Last year, Fuller qualified in the No. 8 position at the Memphis race at 4.583 seconds at 321.81 mph. He was defeated in round two by Doug Foley. Fuller carded his first career Top Fuel victory at Memphis Motorsports Park in 2005, defeating five-time series champion Tony Schumacher 4.612 to 5.747. He earned his second career pole at Memphis in 2006 when he paced the Top Fuel field at 4.575 seconds. Fuller has qualified for 81 consecutive NHRA Top Fuel events. The last time he failed to make the cut was at the Houston race in 1996. Fuller has the second longest qualifying streak in Top Fuel (Tony Schumacher). He has an average qualifying position of 7.5 in 18 races this season. Fuller has 13 career NHRA sportsmen victories in the Super Comp (seven) and Super Gas (six) categories. He has 20 career NHRA national event victories, seven coming in Top Fuel. He was the 1998 Super Gas runner-up at Memphis. Fuller’s Caterpillar dragster will be flying the colors of Riggs CAT, Louisiana Machinery and Thompson Machinery during the Memphis NHRA race. 2008 NHRA Top Fuel Standings – Coundtown to 1 (20 of 24 races) 1.
